Welcome To The Grind
If you’re visiting The Grind Baseball we likely share a passion for the game. That passion has fueled me for many, many years; you may remember my work from Brewerfan.net, 5 Tool Talk and Perfect Game.
The primary focus of my passion has been player procurement. The great Allan Simpson – founder of Baseball America and one of my professional mentors – told me a long time ago that he was fascinated by the MLB Draft because it served as a bridge between amateur baseball and professional baseball. The foundation of my fascination for the game had the same primary root.
College baseball has also been a passion of mine. I started to pay more and more attention to the sport in the late 1980s, but it really took flight in 1992 while watching Cal State Fullerton, along with the No. 1 overall pick in that year’s draft – Phil Nevin – in the College World Series.
From 2015 through the abbreviated 2020 season I directed the college baseball content at Perfect Game, which included weekly Top 25 team rankings and a tremendous amount of preseason and in-season content, all of which annually culminated in Omaha, Neb. with the College World Series. Currently I am a contributing writer at D1Baseball.com in addition to the work you will find here.
The Grind Baseball will continue to have a focus on college baseball and the draft, but will be dedicated to ballplayers of all ages, particularly those with college and pro aspirations, who work hard on a daily basis to achieve their dreams. I promise to grind just as hard to share some of their stories which undoubtedly will translate into having a lot of fun along the way.
